Saint Petersburg is the second largest city of Russia,its strategic center, the nearest to European Community countries. Geographical location: is located in North West of Russia in the delta of Neva on the shore of Gulf of Finland and occu pies together with administratively sub ordinate territories an area of 1439 sq. km.The climate is moderate warm,humid in summer and moderate cold in winter. Citizens and guest of the city like most of all the period of "white nights"(from May 25 26 to July 16 17),when the sun goes beyond the horizon for a short time,and daylight in the end of July is almost 19 hours.

Nature: One of symbolic name of Saint Petersburg Northern Venice.. Internal waters cover approximately 10% of city area.The city is located on 44 islands created by Neva and 90 other rivers and channels. Saint Petersburg is called a Museum of bridges\;there are over 300 of them.In the night,from 01.00 to 05.00 a.m. bridges across Neva are drawn.For several hours a part of the city may become inac cessible.

Museums: There are about 150 museums in the city.Saint Petersburg has the right to be proud of two biggest world museums Hermitage and Russian Museum.. Hermitage is one of the oldest museum of the world;its collection of world art is richer than Louvre`s collections.In March 1998 Russian Museum celebrated its cen tenary;museum collection is the world biggest collection of Russian art.The biggest museums of the city are: St.Isaac cathedral, Museum of City History, Museum of Ethnography, Museum of the Navy, Museum of Theatre Arts and many others. Exhibition halls: Exhibition center of Russian commonwealth of artists,Gallery of Academy of Arts,Manege,Lenexpo, Mikhailovsky Manege.

Theatre: Over 100 theatre groups, including world famous, former imperial theatres:Mariinsky theatre,Maliy theatre of Opera and Ballet in the name of Musorgsky,Aleksandrinsky theatre.Maly Drama theatre, Academical Bolshoi Drama theatre, Ballet theatre of Boris Eifman are well known in our country and abroad, Children Opera house "Zazerkalye".

Music: Saint Petersburg is one of the musical capitals of the world.Apart from the above mentioned music theatres there are a lot of concert halls in the city. Among them,such famous as Saint Petersburg Academical Philharmonic Hall in the name of Shostakovich, Academical Capella in the name of Glinka, Children`s Philharmonic Hall,unique in Russia State Philharmonic Hall of Jazz Music.
